Genealogy of The MacLeods of Kildonan- 4 - Alexander in Eldrable

[1] It is almost impossible to be certain but either Angus MacLeod at No 26 or John MacLeod at No 27 of the 1745 list of Fencible men in Kildonan was the father of Alexander in Eldrable (~1745 to d.by 1809) There was also an Alexander MacLeod married to Jean Ross in Torrish in 1794 and thereafter in Gailable. I thought he may have been a cousin, but in view of the dates of birth, I now believe he was the first son of Alexander in Eldrable, born around 1770 and deceased before 1855. In that case, I have taken John (No 27) to be the son of Angus (No 26). Alexander in Eldrable's first son was Alexander and his second son Angus.

The male children of Alexander in Torrish/Gailable were William (1795), Alex (1809 and 1813), Angus (1811 and 1816). All five of the sons of Alexander in Eldrable had sons named Alexander, there were three named John and two Angus. I would guess that William may have been the name of Marion and/or Janet Polson's father. (Obviously if they were sisters it would be the same man!).
It is therefore apprarent that Angus, John and Alexander were the favoured names of this lineage.
Joseph appears as the third son of Alexander in Eldrable. His first son was Alexander (b.1820). That Alexander in turn had Alexander in 1860 and Joseph in 1862.

I looked in the 1691 Hearth tax list for Assynt edited by Malcolm Bangor-Jones. The following is my speculation
There are very few actual MacLeods listed and MBJ identifies them, so I have only looked at the patronymics based on these preferred names Alexander, Angus, John and William.
Leadbeg: Allister McEan VicAlister - Alexander, son of John of the line of Alexander.
Tubeg: Angus McWilliam - Angus son of William.
Culack: Allister McEan: Alexander son of John.
Achmalvich: John McAngus vic Angus: John son of Angus of the line of Angus.
Tlachtoill: Allexr McAngus: Alexander son of Angus.
Glenlerock: John McAngus VcEan - John, son of Angus of the line of John.

As there are three Alexanders in that list, I speculate the following
Alexander, son of Angus (b~1650) in Clachtoll - with his son Angus (b~1690) and grandson John (b~1720)
Or, perhaps, preserving the John Angus alternation - John McAngus VcAngus in Achmelvich or John McAngus VcEan in Glenlerock.

[2] I thought initially that this Alexander who had children in Torrish and later Gailable was a cousin of Alexander in Eldrable. However, it now seems more probable that he was the first son, born 1770-1773 and died before 1855.
This is the family of Alexander MacLeod and Jean Ross. They were cleared from Torrish in 1809 and had three more children in Gailable.
