Note that Robert MacFarlane was the second husband of Christian MacEwan. Her first husband was John Forbes in Ardoch, Perthshire who had died at some time following the conception of Mary who was born in January 1817. John Forbes and Christian MacEwan had two children together - John born 28/3/1815 and Mary born 20/1/1817. She subsequently married Robert MacFarlane on 26/4/1818 and had seven further children as documented on this page.
Christian's son, John Forbes (1815-1885), was a carter, who lived at Moss Road Tillicoultry and was therefore the half-brother to Jane MacFarlane who married Hugh Lawrie in 1854. John Forbes was the informant on the death certificate of Hugh Lawrie in 1879. He is the reason for Hugh's grandson being baptised John Forbes Lawrie in April 1886, shortly after the death of John Forbes in Tillcoultry on 9/3/1885.
This discovery ended a considerable period of frustration in my genealogical search, as all of the children of John Lawrie and Eliza Ann Cheetham bear family names - Hugh Hartley, Samuel MacFarlane, Robert Cheetham, Clarence Ferguson. Hence the assumption of a Forbes ancestor somewhere in the family tree being the reason for John Forbes Lawrie.
